Pakistan might have lost the semi-final of the T20 World Cup to Australia. But the team has certainly won the hearts with the way they played throughout the tournament. They came through the Super 12 stage unscathed and a few bad overs of cricket ended their dream to win their second title in the shortest format. Nevertheless, it was a great show from the team and the man who won millions of hearts was Mohammad Rizwan.

He batted superbly throughout the tournament and also smashed a half-century in the crucial semi-final. But the man was fighting in terms of his health 48 hours before the match. Rizwan suffered an infection in his chest and had to be admitted in the ICU where he spent two nights before recovering like a fighter for his country on the match day.

A person from Pakistan staff revealed at the press conference that Rizwan fought hard and came back to give it his everything for his side. “Rizwan developed a severe chest infection on 9th of November after which he was admitted to the hospital. He spent two nights in the ICU recovering, made an incredible recovery and was deemed fit before the match. We can see his grit, determination and tenacity that shows his spirit of performing for the country,” he said.

Rizwan was the top-scorer for Pakistan in the semi-final

It wasn’t a usual fluent start for Mohammad Rizwan after Pakistan were put into bat first. He struggled to time the ball but as he spent more time in the middle, the batter started opening up. He made sure to cover up the lost time and played one of the top knocks for Pakistan. Rizwan scored 67 runs off just 52 balls with three fours and four sixes and was one of the reasons why Pakistan posted a brilliant score of 176 runs in their 20 overs.

Overall in the tournament, Rizwan scored 281 runs and at the moment, is the second-highest run-getter only behind his skipper Babar Azam. His average of 70.25 is one of the best and also smacked 23 fours and 12 sixes in the tournament. The man has certainly won a lot of hearts not only with his batting but also with his conduct on and off the field.
