Some brilliant quality of T20 cricket was on display on the fourth day of the T20 World Cup 2021. While Namibia chased down 166 against Netherlands to open their account in the team standings, Sri Lanka comprehensively defeated Ireland by 70 to secure a place in the Super 12 stage. The Lankan side would have gained a lot of confidence from this win and it would be interesting to see how the next stage pans out for them. Meanwhile, three spots for the Super 12 are still up for grabs.
Speaking of the first match on Wednesday (October 20), Namibia invited Netherlands to bat after winning the toss in Abu Dhabi. The Dutch batters embraced the challenge and posted 164/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Max O’Dowd top-scored for them with a 56-ball 70.
Namibia’s chase didn’t start off brilliantly as they lost wickets at regular intervals. However, a 93-run stand between Gerhard Erasmus and David Wiese changed the course of the game. Subsequently, Namibia won the game by six wickets with an over to spare.
The evening match took place between Sri Lanka and Ireland. The Lankan side, while batting first, got off to a terrible start as they lost three wickets for eight runs. However, half-centuries from Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga helped them post 171/7. Ireland never really looked in the hunt as they lost wickets constantly. They eventually got skittled out fur 101, losing the contest by 70 runs.
