Namibia started their campaign in the Super 12 stages of the 2021 T20 World Cup with a 4-wicket victory over the Scotland outfit. Chasing a target of 110, the Namibia side went past the finish line with 5 balls to spare.
Opener Craig Williams scored a calm and composed 23 off 29 deliveries for Namibia. Apart from Williams, Michael van Lingen scored a 24-ball 18. Even though Namibia lost a few quick wickets to be reduced to 67/4, David Wiese and JJ Smit put on a partnership of 35 runs to help Namibia past the target.
With the ball, Michael Leask scalped 2 wickets, while the likes of Mark Watt, Chris Greaves, Safyaan Sharif, and Bradley Wheal picked up a solitary wicket each for Scotland.
Batting first, Scotland posted a total of 109/8 in their allotted 20 overs. In fact, the Scotland side was in trouble early on, as they were reduced to 18/4. But then, the likes of Michael Leask and Chris Greaves stepped up for the Scotland outfit.
While Leask scored an attacking 44 off just 27 deliveries, Greaves scored a patient 32-ball 25. Ruben Trumpelmann picked up 3 wickets with the ball for Namibia and conceded just 17 runs in his 4 overs. Jan Frylinck also chipped in with 2 wickets as well. With this win, the Namibia side is placed at third place in the points table, while the Scotland side is positioned at the last spot.
England pummel Bangladesh by 8 wickets
Earlier in the day, the England side hammered Bangladesh by 8 wickets. Eoin Morgan and his men proved superior to the Bangladeshi Tigers in every department of the game. Wielding the willow first, the Bangladesh side could only post a mediocre total of 124/9 in its allotted 20 overs.
Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 29 for Bangladesh. Apart from Rahim, Nasum Ahmed and Mahmudullah also contributed useful runs as well. Left-arm pacer Tymal Mills was outstanding with the ball for England.
The 29-year-old prized out 3 willow wielders in his 4-over spell and leaked runs at an economy rate of 6.75 per over. In reply, the England batsmen blazed their way past the finish line.
Jason Roy was the catalyst of England’s victory with the willow and scored a whirlwind 61 off just 38 deliveries. Apart from Roy, the likes of Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan scored 18 and 28* respectively, as England romped home with 5.5 overs to spare. With this victory, England have moved to the top of the points table in Group 1, while Bangladesh are placed at the 5th spot.
