The Men in Blue continued their dominance over the Proteas in the shortest format as well by winning the first of the three T20Is at the Wanderers on Sunday. The visitors won by 28 runs as South Africa could only muster 175 runs in the pursuit of 203 which India posted after being invited to bat first on a small ground. However, it was a special day for the left-arm chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi who scalped the Indian captain Virat Kohli as his first wicket in the format.

Shamsi, in particular, bowled well as he troubled the Indian batsmen as they were going great guns before he was introduced into the attack. He should’ve had the wicket of Kohli in the very first over when he chipped the ball towards long on where Farhaan Behardien dropped a sitter. Though he pinned the nemesis of his team in front of the wickets soon on 26 as everyone in the South African camp heaved a sigh of relief.

Shamsi over the top

Tabraiz Shamsi was over the moon after the umpire raised his finger in response to his lbw appeal. He enjoyed the moment with a Tahir-esque celebration by running a long way in the Stadium. Moreover, it was his birthday which made the moment even more special for the South African spinner. He took to Twitter to express his joy and termed Virat Kohli as one of the best batsmen in the history of the game.

“Such an amazing feeling getting my first International T20 wicket yesterday…. and to get one of the best batsmen in the history of the game made it even sweeter #Celebrations #OverTheMoon #ClearlyVeryVeryHappy #Lol,” his tweet read.

Shamsi was the only bowler on the day who looked like picking up a wicket during the middle overs for the home side as India were plundering the runs during that period. Though he ended with the figures of 1/37, Shamsi was unlucky to be on the receiving end early on in his spell.
