Umran Malik has been breathing fire with the ball in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as many prominent batters have become victims of his thunderbolts. Umran belongs to a rare breed of fast bowlers, who can clock over 150 kmph on a consistent basis. The speedster is even getting more accurate with time and hence, many back the 22-year-old to go a long way.

So far, the speedster has scalped 15 wickets in nine games including a five-wicket haul against Gujarat Titans. With Umran becoming a nightmare for the batters, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar came up with a hilarious piece of advice to counter the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler. One of the greatest batters to have stepped onto the cricket field, Gavaskar is known for his steady analysis and brilliant reading of the game.

However, his comic side came out during a discussion on Star Sports. “Take a single and go to the non-striker’s end,” quipped Gavaskar after being asked what batters should do to tackle Umran. He further said batters should cover all their three stumps and not let Umran see the stumps.

“Don’t give him a sight of your stumps. Cover all three stumps so that when he runs in to bowl, he has got to see where is the off stump, where is the leg stump,” he added. Meanwhile, Umran endured a rare rough day on Sunday (May 1) despite recording the fastest delivery of the tournament, clocking 154kmph, twice.

He gave away 48 runs in his quota of four overs and even failed to take a single wicket as CSK won the contest by 13 runs. Hence, the Jammu and Kashmir-based pacer would be raring to bounce back in the upcoming fixtures. It must be noted that the T20 World Cup 2022, which is just few months away, will take place on the fast pitches of Australia. Hence, selectors might consider adding Umran to the squad.
