Tamim Iqbal bats for ‘Honors Board’ at Mirpur stadium

In 2010, Bangladesh’s left-handed opening batsman Tamim Iqbal got his name immortalized on the Lord’s Honors board after smashing a whirlwind and breathtaking century against England in the England v Bangladesh Test match at Lord’s. The innings, as well as the honor of having the name up on the honors board, was perhaps the stuff of dreams and something the southpaw would have least expected to happen.

However, almost 6 years on from that wonderful experience at the so-called ‘Home of Cricket’, Tamim Iqbal has a rather unusual request for the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Iqbal stated that he would love to see an honors board set up at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla Stadium situated in Mirpur.

The 27-year old left-handed batsman also added that Mirpur needs to have its own board in order to inspire younger cricketers in the country to take up and perform well in the sport.

“Cricketers want to perform everywhere around the world, but it’s always special when you do well at home. Children in Bangladesh dream of playing at the SBNCS and the honours should be recorded,” said Tamim.

“It will also be great for me. I probably may not feel it now, but once I retire, I will want to show my son my achievements here and the best way to do that is through an honour board. England has boards not only at Lord’s but also at other venues,” he added.

“I am sure all these coveted structures will come up in good time,” he said.

The Bangladesh Cricket team’s performance in the recent past has seen them become a serious threat to the other international sides in the world.
