Tanmay Agarwal hospitalised after being hit on head in a Ranji match

Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal was struck on the head during a Group C Ranji Trophy match against Chattisgarh in Valsad when he was fielding in the forward short leg position. He was admitted to the hospital as per reports in The Hindu.

It was Chattisgarh’s wicketkeeper-batsman Manoj Singh who attempted a pull off left-arm spinner, Mehdi Hasan shortly after lunch and the ball hit the short leg fielder Agarwal’s helmet as he apparently tried to catch the ball. His reactions were spontaneous as he went for the catch instinctively.

The southpaw who felt dizzy despite being in senses was carried off the field and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The doctors advised a scan after preliminary examination were done by the medical staff present in the stadium.

Benjamin Thomas was brought in as Agarwal’s replacement for the vacant opening slot in the 2nd innings after Chattisgarh were bundled out soon after lunch.

Agarwal shared a 120 run partnership with Subramaniam Badrinath in the 1st innings and helped his side post a competitive 351 on the board in the 1st innings. Badrinath was the highest scorer with a brilliant 134 and was ably supported by Bavanaka Sandeep who chipped in with a crucial 96.

Agarwal made his first-class debut against Goa in 2014 and made an immediate impact scoring a magnificent century. He has been a regular member of the Hyderabad side ever since making his debut and has scored 1069 runs in 18 first class matches at an average of 39.56. In his short career, he has already hit four centuries and four fifties and has a promising future ahead.

Tanmay Agarwal has also appeared in 7 List A matches scoring 366 runs at a healthy average of 52.28. The southpaw has two centuries and a half-century to his name in the limited overs format.
