Bangaldeshi leg-spinner Tanveer Haider had a forgettable day in his ODI debut against New Zealand. He failed to contribute with the bat and the ball as Bangladesh suffered a crushing defeat in the second ODI against New Zealand at the Saxton Oval. To add salt to his wounds of a forgettable debut, the 25-year-old was also officially reprimanded by the ICC Match officials after the game.

He was handed an official warning for using obscene language during the match. Apparently, the on-field umpires heard him use the foul language. Match referee Chris Broad later reprimanded him and handed him a demerit point as well. Haider was guilty of breaching the article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The article pertains to “using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an international match”.

The demerit point handed to him is a warning for the youngster to not repeat his fault. In case Tanveer Haider gets another four more demerit points within the 24-month time frame, he will be handed a suspension point. Two suspension point is equivalent to one Test match ban or two limited overs match ban.

Coming to the offence, it happened in the 19th over of the New Zealand innings. Batsman Neil Broom hit the leggie for a boundary and Haider was seen using obscene language in disgust. He later admitted the charges imposed on him by the match referee and hence no hearing was needed.

In the match, Neil Broom magnificent unbeaten 109 off 107 balls helped the hosts post 251 in their 50 overs. Broom helped the Kiwis recover from 107/5 at one stage. Later, Bangladesh were in full command of the run chase at 105/1. However, a flurry of wickets and no resistance saw Bangladesh bundle out for 184 and thereby losing by 67 runs. Tanveer Haider scored 2 runs and had bowled 8 overs for 47 runs with no reward.
