Team India completes flag hoisting ceremony on Independence Day in Kandy

The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by singing the national anthem.

In a cricket crazy nation like India, often the happiness and sadness of the natives are directly proportional to the performance of the Indian cricket team. The fans are in the seventh heaven now as on the eve of the 71st Independence Day of India, the talented Indian cricketers, led by their extraordinary skipper Virat Kohli, outclass the Lankans in their own backyard, thereby completing a clean sweep in the series.

Today (Tuesday) is the 71st Independence Day of India. 71 years ago on this day, the nation achieved what it fought for, freedom from the shackles of misery. Hence, it a customary tradition that on this auspicious day every year, the Indians hoist the Tiranga or the tri-coloured flag of India. The tradition is followed by all and the cricketers also indulge in the flag hoisting ceremony.

The Indian cricketers are currently in Sri Lanka, training hard for the upcoming ODI series and hence was not able to hoist the Tiranga in India. But that does not stop them from performing the hoisting ceremony, as they hoisted the tricolour in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The BCCI uploaded a video on Twitter, where the leader of the nation’s cricket army, Virat Kohli is seen hoisting the Indian flag.

He was accompanied by the head coach Ravi Shastri, who was standing next to him. All the Indian players were also present to attend the ceremony. The flag hoisting was followed by singing the national anthem of India, “Jana Gana Mana…”.

Standing in a queue, all the players sang the national anthem and ended the ceremony with a string of claps. Man of the moment Hardik Pandya was seen murmuring something in his skipper’s ears after the ceremony was over. The caption of the video read “#TeamIndia gathered at Kandy to hoist the tricolour on the occasion of Independence Day #IndependenceDayIndia.”
