Team India manager to undergo ICC hearing: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday came out in support of under-fire umpire Vineet Kulkarni who has been under fire from the Indian team management. The World Governing Body has decided to take action against Indian team manager Vinod Phadke because of his violation of ICC code of conduct regarding showing dissent against Umpires decision in the ongoing series against South Africa.

This might be a rare instance after a long time that ICC has stood up to BCCI’s indecent conduct. The ICC confirmed the charge in a tweet today:

Phadke has been charged of what the ICC says were “inappropriate comments”. The hearing will take place after the second match of the ongoing India-South Africa series in Indore. Following defeats in the T20I series and in the first game of the five-match ODI series, hosts India were reported to have been miffed with umpire Kulkarni for what the home team felt was poor officiating.

According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, team manager Vinod Phadke said that he was going to complain about the decision-making at the end of the series.

In the first T20I at Dharamsala, the umpire, Kulkarni had turned down a vociferous appeal for a leg before – that looked plumb in replays – against JP Duminy, who then went to take South Africa home in a tense chase.

After the match, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni expressed disappointment over poor standard of umpiring, but without naming the umpire. The hosts were at the receiving end in Kanpur as well when Kulkarni adjudged Dhawan leg before when the ball was clearly missing leg.

India though have only themselves to blame after not giving a go ahead to the DRS system. The 36-year-old Kulkarni has stood in 18 ODIs and seven T20Is. The convention in bilateral ODIs is for a local umpire to team up with a neutral umpire.
