Former Pakistan batter Younis Khan reckoned that Team India should go out and perform for Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup 2021 since it’s the latter’s last assignment as the skipper of the Men in Blue in T20Is. Last month, the 32-year-old said that he would be stepping down from the role after the mega event in Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

The Delhi-born Kohli also stepped down as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. Khan, one of the Pakistan’s greatest cricketers, lauded Kohli for changing the face of cricket in India. The veteran also wished Kohli luck before the start of the World Cup.

I hope that he plays really well, says Younis Khan

“He has been amazing. As a player or as a role model, he has been terrific. He is one of them who has changed the game for his country. His whole nation is proud of him. It’s good luck for him for this upcoming T20 World Cup. And I hope that he plays really well. And team India should perform for him because as a captain this will be his last series in T20s,” Khan was quoted as saying to Uncut.

Younis also wanted Kohli to end his captaincy stint on a positive note in the way the former left after Pakistan’s win the 2009 World T20.

“I hope him and his nation perform well. And he should also leave his captaincy on a high note, just as I left it in 2009 with a World Cup victory,” Younis added.

Khan also said that comparisons between Kohli and Babar Azam shouldn’t be drawn. He was of the opinion that while Virat has been plying his trade for India for over a decade, Babar is finding his feet across all three formats in international cricket since his debut in 2015.

India are set to start their campaign against Pakistan in the Super 12s on Sunday, October 24, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Last time Kohli played against the Men in Green in a T20 World Cup match, he became the Player of the Match. His half-century helped India beat Pakistan at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
