Although the Indian cricket team lost the Test series to South Africa, they made a comeback in the final Test and did really well to beat the Proteas. Unlike in the first two matches, they held on to the crucial junctures in the game. The visitors also grabbed all the chances that came their way and didn’t spill any. For South Africa, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis not doing well in this match really hurt their chances.

The bowlers played a crucial role for India in this match. Although they were good in the first two Tests, they didn’t find enough support from the batsman. Ajinkya Rahane did well after coming back into the team after a lean phase. He scored a crucial 48 in the second innings putting India in a commanding position. A little cameo in the end from Mohammed Shami further increased the troubles for South Africa.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar too came back into the team after being dropped in the second test. He won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his impressive performance. Fifers from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami helped India’s cause to register one of the famous wins.

South Africa fall like a pack of cards

At one point in time, the Proteas looked the favourites to win the dead rubber. Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla put them in a commanding position. But the Indians never lost hope and battled till the end. As soon as South Africa lost the wicket of Amla, their batting order collapsed. Dean Elgar fought hard and carried his bat through in the innings but couldn’t change the fortunes of his side.

The Indian bowlers were absolutely pumped and rattled the Proteas line-up. This is definitely one of the better wins in Indian cricket’s history. Also, their record to not lose a single game at the venue stayed intact.

The team was overjoyed with the win and celebrated hard. The players took it to Twitter to express their happiness. Meanwhile, former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni too was spotted with the side celebrating. He is in the Rainbow Nation to play the limited-overs leg of the series starting from February 1.
