Nathan Lyon has been a fulcrum of the Australian Test side for nearly a decade. Though he hasn’t played a lot of ODIs and T20Is, the tweaker has been contributing to the Test team for many years now. After Shane Warne, who finished his Test career with 700 plus wickets, Lyon is deemed as their best spinner, and rightly so, bearing in mind his contributions to Australian cricket.

The New South Wales-born recently took part in 100 Tests and has 399 wickets in his illustrious career. He has as many as 18 fifers and 16 four-wicket hauls to show for his efforts. Lyon was recently a part of the Australian team in the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India. However, in four matches, he could only manage nine wickets with best figures of 3/72 in Melbourne.

He played his 100th Test at the Gabba in Brisbane where the Aussies lost by three wickets despite having the odds in their favour. In the meantime, Lyon also thanked the Indian team on the stupendous series victory. He also posted a picture of a signed Indian jersey gifted to him on the occasion of his 100th Test.

Here’s Nathan Lyon’s message –

“After a week at home, I’ve had a chance to reflect on the summer. Playing for Australia and receiving a baggy green has always been my dream. I am extremely humble and grateful to have played one test match for Australia let alone 99 more.

I have had the opportunity to play and learn from some of the greats of Australian Cricket and have made friendship that will last a lifetime. Walking out onto the field in Brisbane to celebrate 100 matches was an extremely proud moment personally for me. Even though we didn’t get the job done I will continue to learn, grow and aim to become a better cricketer everyday.

A massive congratulations to @ajinkyarahane and team India on the series win! Thank you also for your sportsmanship and the incredibly kind gesture of a signed Team India shirt. It will be a great addition to the man cave.

Now time to reset and chase some bigger goals.“
