West Indies emerging cricketer Brandon King has been trying hard to make an impact in the limited-overs ever since he first burst into the scene at the highest level back in 2019. While his performances have not been up to the mark in One Day Internationals, he has managed to find a place in T20Is and now, wishes to make a permanent spot for himself in the format as he eyes a mega tournament later this year.

Lately, Brandon King has made it clear that he wants to be a part of the Caribbean squad in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup that will be played in Australia in October-November this year.

My long-term goal is to play the T20 World Cup: Brandon King

“My long-term goal would obviously be to make the World Cup squad at the end of the year – that’s always in the back of my mind, but I do like to stay in the present. My immediate goal would be to try and do my best in this series here: [in the] the last series I played in Pakistan, I finished with the second-most runs so it would be nice to finish with the most runs in this series. that’s the big goal that I’ve set out for myself”, Brandon King as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old also added that the selection and other aspects are not in his control and all he can do from his end is to focus on things that are in his control and that is to showcase remarkable performances with the bat leading up to the showpiece event.

King has so far represented the West Indies in 13 T20Is where he has amassed 221 runs. After being dropped from the team for a year, he was recalled for the Pakistan tour where he scored his first and only half-century.

West Indies who were the defending champions in the 2021 edition that was played in the UAE had a forgettable campaign as they failed to make it to the semis.  The two-time winners will first need to play the qualifying round in this year’s T20 World Cup Down Under.
