Indian skipper Virat Kohli did not take the field in Australia’s first innings after injuring his shoulder in the 40th inning but can come out to bat at any position during India’s first innings, the Indian Team management has confirmed with the match officials. They have also informed the match officials that Kohli’s injury is entirely external.

There were doubts over the position Indian talisman will come out to bat in but since the injury is an external one, Kohli could well come out at his normal position- No. 4. The dependable batsman picked up the injury when he tried to stop a ball at the boundary and landed awkwardly on his right shoulder. He went off the field immediately and was under treatment of Indian physio Patrick Farhart.

According to last night’s report, Kohli’s situation wasn’t serious but seemed critical and was said he will bat only if needed. Speculative reports also suggested that Kohli would not feature in the fourth and final Test due to the injury.

Dr Abhishek who was in charge of Kohli’s treatment was quoted as saying, “Virat fell on his right shoulder during the game and suffered a grade 1 ligament tear. His body structure seems to be ok but the doctors have advised rest for at least 1 week to 10 days (sic).”

Later the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) discarded the reports and stated that Kohli’s condition is well under control as the Delhi batsman is recovering from a shoulder strain. There is no such serious condition and the 28-year-old is expected to come out to bat in the Indian innings. Keeping in mind the 451-run total Australia has posted it is very important for the Indian skipper to deliver with the bat if India are to get a favorable result out of the Test.
