The BCCI plans to take the matter to the Supreme Court after Kerala High Court's decision to lift the ban on Sreesanth

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to take action against the Kerala High Court’s decision to lift the life time ban on Shanthakumaran Sreesanth. The Indian cricket board is thinking of appealing to the Supreme Court against the decision. The Kerala high court lifted the ban on the former Indian international on Monday and asked the BCCI to do so.

Sreesanth was imposed a life ban by the BCCI disciplinary committee in 2013 as they held the bowler guilty of a spot fixing case in the Indian Premier League. The swing bowler was a part of the Rajasthan Royals franchise during 2013 season and had finally some good news coming towards him.

In his order, Justice A Muhamed Mustaque also set aside all proceedings against Sreesanth initiated by the BCCI. According to reports by India Today, the BCCI is looking for a legal opinion on the matter and an advice from Neeraj Kumar, who is the head of the board’s Ani Corruption Unit.

“Proving criminal charges and misconduct are two different things. We are still to study the order completely but our position has always been that misconduct has been proven under our internal disciplinary proceedings. There are some who don’t want us to pursue the case but we have to take a considered view following legal advice,” a reliable source reported India Today.

The cricketer was, however, set free from the criminal charge by the Patiala House Court in 2015. But the BCCI still did not take off the ban imposed by its disciplinary committee on Sreesanth. A BCCI statement in 2015 read “The decision of the session’s court to acquit the petitioner from criminal charges has no impact whatsoever on the decision of the internal disciplinary committee of the BCCI to ban the petitioner from playing cricket tournaments organised by the BCCI and/or its affiliates.”

The Kerala high court has requested the BCCI not to take the matter to a higher court. After losing his job as a cricketer, Sreesanth has acted in films and has participated in dance shows. He also had a brief stint in politics.
