A certain rise in the number of T20I matches in this format was seen in 2017 as a total of 63 matches were played in this year despite there was no ICC event in the T20I format. As many as six individual hundreds and three five-fers were recorded in 2017 which saw an even competition between bat and ball. The year 2017 can be marked for the importance of leg-spinners in the limited-overs who played the pivotal role for their teams.

Here are all the cricketing stats and numbers that were recorded in the T20I cricket in 2017:

2 – Lasith Malinga against Bangladesh and Faheem Ashraf against Sri Lanka recorded hat-tricks in T20I cricket in 2017. This is the first time two T20I hat-tricks were recorded in a calendar year.


3 – Yuzvendra Chahal is the only player to take more than one four-wicket haul in this format in 2017. He took three 4-fers this year including two in his last two games of 2017.


6/25 – Yuzvendra Chahal’s 6/25 against England are the best T20I bowling figures in 2017. Rashid Khan (5/3) and Imran Tahir (5/24) are the other players with a 5-fer in this format in 2017.


9 – India’s nine wins in this format in 2017 are the most by any team. They won nine out of the 13 T20Is they played and lost in only four. Pakistan’s eight wins out of ten games is the best record for any team in 2017.


10 – Number of T20Is Sri Lanka lost in 2017 which are the most by any team. No other team lost more than six T20I games this year. They featured in 15 matches this year which are also the most by any team.


13 – MS Dhoni’s 13 dismissals in this format are the most by any wicketkeeper in 2017. His seven stumpings are also the most while Chadwick Walton’s eight catches are the most for a keeper this year. George Dockrell’s ten catches are the most by a fielder in 2017.


23 – Yuzvendra Chahal’s 23 T20I wickets are the most for any player in 2017. He is the only player to take 20+ wickets this year.


31 – Evin Lewis hit the most number of sixes in T20I cricket in 2017. No other player has hit more than 20 sixes this year. Mohammad Shahzad’s 38 fours are the most in 2017 T20Is.


125* – Evin Lewis’ unbeaten 125 against India in Kingston is the highest individual score in the T20I format in 2017. Five other individual hundreds were recorded this year including two by Colin Munro.

165 – Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul’s 165-run opening stand against Sri Lanka is the highest stand for any wicket in 2017. Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan’s 158-run partnership against New Zealand is the only other 150+ stand in 2017.


260/5 – India’s total of 260/5 against Sri Lanka in Indore is the highest team total in 2017 while Ireland’s 71/10 against Afghanistan in the Desert T20 Final is the lowest.


357 – Lewis’ 357 runs in 2017 are the most by any player in the T20I format. Babar Azam scored 352 runs this year while AB de Villiers and Ahmed Shehzad scored 304 runs each.


438 – The Afghanistan-Ireland T20I in Greater Noida was the highest aggregated (438 runs) T20I game of 2017. The game between the two sides in Dubai turned out to be the lowest aggregated (146 runs) T20I of the year.
