The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming 2022 Asia Cup tournament, starting on the 27th of August in the UAE. The biggest news for Indian fans is the return of star batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who missed India’s latest tour to the West Indies for different reasons. Both Kohli and Rahul boost India’s strong-looking batting unit but fans will be disheartened to not see star pacer Jasprit Bumrah‘s name as he was ruled out due to a back injury.

Kohli, despite being one of the fittest Indian cricketers, has missed India’s 17 out of 22 international matches since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2022. He last international appearance was in the third ODI against England on July 17. He was rested for India’s eight-match white-ball tour to West Indies and is not part of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe starting on the 18th of August.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul has not played any international cricket after his exceptionally good outings in IPL 2022. He was named as captain to lead the team in the five-match T20I home series against South Africa but suffered a groin injury just before the opening clash. Rahul was all set to make his comeback on the West Indies tour, but was ruled out as he tested positive for Covid-19.

Both Kohli and Rahul were expected to play against Zimbabwe, but both the players have been rested. It has been reported that Rahul is still struggling with his fitness and will take time to fully recover. Now that both Kohli and Rahul are back for a mega tournament, the fans are eagerly waiting to see how their favourite cricketers perform in the UAE.

Here are a few Twitter Reactions on the return of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul:
