Match Details:

The 18th match of the Ford Trophy 2019-20 will be played between Otago and Central Districts at the University Oval in Dunedin.

The match starts at 11:00 AM local time (10:00 PM GMT – Prev Day) (3:30 AM IST).

Preview:

Otago and Central Districts, the bottom two teams of the Ford Trophy 2019-20, will face off on Sunday at the University Oval. Otago managed to win two matches while the Central Districts won only one game thus far. Both the teams are missing some of their big names due to the ongoing T20I and Unofficial ODI series at home against the Indian teams. This gave a chance for Ben Smith to lead the Central Districts while Anaru Kitchen will be leading Otago. The Otago team might be missing Tom Bruce and George Worker but they will be boosted with the return of Will Young.

Weather Condition/Report:

The University Oval could be under the clouds on Sunday but no rain is forecasted during the match timings.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The University Oval hosted four Ford Trophy matches and an ODI during the 2018/19 season. Across the four matches that were not troubled by rain, the teams batting first averaged 273. In a 32-over match during that season, over 400 runs were scored by both the teams. Hence, the track here gives a hint or two about it being a high-scoring one.

Average first innings score: 273 (Unaffected List A matches since 2018/19)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 1, Lost – 3

Injury and Availability:

(Will be added when there is an update)

Top Picks:

Will Young is set to play his first match of the season who has scored five centuries in 56 List A matches. His scores against Australia XI during the unofficial ODI series before CWC19 read 60, 130 and 111. Hamish Rutherford is not that consistent in the One-Day format as he crossed 50-run mark only on three occasions in the last 16 matches. All the three times, he ended up finishing with 100+ runs which shows how dangerous he can be once he gets a start. Ben Wheeler is set to play his first Ford Trophy game of this season. Across the last two editions, he bagged 18 wickets in only 8 matches and also aggregated 138 runs. Seth Rance is also as consistent as Wheeler as he picked up 14 wickets from his last six Ford Trophy games.

Expert Advice:

We have given two types of fantasy teams for this match. The Suggested Playing XI No.1 is made expecting bit of slowness from the track while the Suggested Playing XI No.2 expects this match to be a high-scoring one. The likes of Seth Rance, Ben Wheeler and Nathan Smith are common in both XIs due to their consistency at taking wickets.

Probable Winners:

The Central Districts look solid due to the depth in their bowling but their batting isn’t as strong as of the Otago.
