‘The greatest bowler I ever played with or against’ – Ricky Ponting bids emotional farewell to Shane Warne

Australian spin-bowling colossus Shane Warne breathed his last on 4th March 2022. The 52-year-old leg spinner was in Thailand when he passed away because of a heart attack. And, Warne’s death has sent the cricketing world into a tizzy.

Former Australian cricketing great Ricky Ponting took to social media to express his thoughts on Warne’s demise. Ponting stated that it is difficult for him to put into words what this loss means to him.

The former Aussie skipper stated that Warne was his teammate for over a decade and shared all the highs and lows with him. Ponting further stated that Warne loved his family as well.

“Hard to put this into words. I first met him when I was 15 at the Academy. He gave me my nickname. We were teammates for more than a decade, riding all the highs and lows together. Through it all he was someone you could always count on, someone who loved his family,” tweeted Ricky Ponting.

Ponting stated that Warne was a cricketer who was always there for him, and added that the leg spinner put his team in the forefront always. Ponting also added that Warne is the greatest bowler he has played with or against in his career.

“Someone who would be there for you when you needed him and always put his mates first. The greatest bowler I ever played with or against. RIP King. My thoughts are with Keith, Bridgette, Jason, Brooke, Jackson, and Summer,” tweeted Ricky Ponting.

Shane Warne is regarded as arguably the greatest exponent of the art of leg-spin bowling. In an international career that lasted 15 years, the bowling legend scalped 1001 wickets. Warne picked up 10 ten-wicket hauls in his legendary career as well.
