It won’t be wrong in saying that Bangladesh cricket has been screeching through pain at the present point of time. It’s as if someone has ripped the heart out and left it to die without any assistance. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently slapped all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan with a two-year suspension. Twelve months of the ban is a suspended sentence.

The same will only come into effect if the Jessore-born complies with the anti-corruption code of the apex cricket board. The suspension means that he won’t be able to take part in the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia and also the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he is with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Shakib is likely to make a return to cricket on October 29, 2020.

Shakib has accepted the charges brought against him after failing to report three corrupt approaches, including one in the IPL. Mahmudullah and Mominul Haque have been made the T20I and Test skipper respectively for the tour of India, scheduled to get underway on November 3. Shakib has been replaced by Taijul Islam in the T20I squad.

A confident Mortaza

In the meantime, Mashrafe Mortaza, who led the Tigers in the 2019 World Cup, was heartbroken after the massive development in the cricket world. Mashrafe has been out of cricket for over three months and the date of his return isn’t known just yet. During the World Cup, Mashrafe had praised Shakib, saying that the 32-year-old had transcended himself in the tournament.

The 36-year-old fast bowler took to his official Facebook account and posted an emotional message for Shakib. Mashrafe uploaded their picture together. Though he is shattered, he is also confident that Bangladesh will play the final of the 2023 World Cup under the leadership of Shakib Al Hasan.

The veteran captioned the picture in Bengali. Here’s the translation. “After fighting together for 13 years, I will be sleepless for a few nights for sure after our warrior’s suspension. But after a few days, I will be able to sleep well, thinking that under his leadership itself, we will play the 2023 World Cup final. Because the name is Shakib Al Hasan,”
