In spite of being one of India’s most prolific skippers in recent times, Bishan Singh Bedi has been quite outspoken in his views on the manner in which cricket is being played. Of course, he played at a time when cricket was viewed as a side sport, but the fact of the matter is that his views have made him a bit hated by man.
However, most recently, Bedi went ahead and resonated something that was quite clear in the minds of most. He went ahead and stated that the wicket in Pune was a complete disgrace and that he feared that someone would get seriously injured whilst playing on such a wicket.
“I say this with humility, I don’t need the ICC to tell me it was a poor pitch. I knew it when I first saw the action on television. It was a disgrace and I feared someone would get seriously injured,” he said in an interaction with Mid-Day.
As a former Test cricketer, Bedi also lashed out at the manner in which Test match cricket was being promoted stating that the bigger venues in the country were the ones needed to market Test cricket. “You need to market and promote Test cricket. If bigger centers can’t do that, how do you expect smaller venues to do so? I can’t see why you want to have Test cricket in Ranchi and Dharamsala.”
