Hyderabad’s Girish Dongre has been named the cricket operations chief of the Bengal Tigers franchise at the T10 cricket tournament, which is set to take place in Sharjah, UAE, from December 14 to 17. He will also wear the hat for the team manager’s role alongside former legendary pacer Waqar Younis. Pakistan’s captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will lead the Bengal Tigers.

Girish is not new to the cricketing circuit, earlier he has worked with the BCCI for away teams such as West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia. He was an active member of the Masters Champions League T20 tourney in Dubai.

The Tigers will have the service of West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, Mustafizur Rahman, Darren Sammy, Darren Bravo and Rumman Raees. The games will be played at the iconic Sharjah stadium. And it will be the first time that the venue will host a T10 game.

Morgan backs the league

England ODI skipper Eoin Morgan is one of the ambassadors of the league. “I think anyone who is first through the door to do something different or revolutionise the game is going to cop a lot of flak. The effect Twenty20 has had on the development of the game, and how aspects of the game are looked at in a completely different context now, is obvious,” said Morgan.

“But, I think T10 cricket really takes that to a microscopic level in that every ball will be dissected. There is no room for either taking time or making mistakes. It’s evolutionary, really.”

Former Indian cricketer Robin Singh, who will open an academy in the country, is also a part of the league. He is the coach of Kerala Kings. “I think T10 will take the importance of fielding to a completely different level. A lot of players may not get a chance to make a mark with bat or ball in a game, but each of them will have to make a difference on the field,” said Robin.
