The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the limited-overs series against the West Indies. This series will consist of three ODIs and as many T20Is and will commence on 6th February 2022.
Rohit Sharma will return from injury to lead the Indian side, while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has also made a return to the ODI squad as well. Also, Ravindra Jadeja has not been picked in the Indian squad as he has not completely recovered from his knee injury. However, one name was missing from the limited-overs squad. And, it is Rishi Dhawan.
Rishi Dhawan produced a scintillating performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last month. The right-arm pacer emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament and scalped 17 wickets at an average of 23.35. He also emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in the competition as well, and amassed 458 runs with the willow at a superb average of 76.33.
Twitter reacts to Rishi Dhawan’s omission from the Indian limited-overs squad
And, several fans have taken to Twitter to react to Dhawan’s omission from the Indian limited-overs squad. One fan feels that Dhawan could have surely been picked in the side as the 6th bowling option, while another tweeted that Dhawan could have been picked in place of Deepak Hooda.
Another fan feels that the limited-overs squad for the series against the West Indies was picked based on the performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Yet another fan opined that Rishi Dhawan deserved to be picked in the Indian squad for the limited-overs assignment against the West Indies side.
While another fan tweeted that the value of Indian domestic cricket is coming down, another put out some numbers to prove why Dhawan deserved a place in the Indian side. Ahmedabad will play host to the ODI series between India and the West Indies, while the T20I series will be played in Kolkata.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Rishi Dhawan’s omission from the Indian limited-overs squad
How is Deepak hooda selected over Rishi Dhawan. Rishi was second highest run scorer and second highest wicket taker this vijay Hazare trophy. You gotta feel for him#INDvWI #CricketTwitter

Why did Venkatesh Iyer drop out of ODI team?
And why did Rishi Dhawan not get a chance in a format? 👇
*And this guy showed all-round performance like putting out fires in #SMAT & #VijayHazare Trophy.
*Day by day the value of Indian Domestic Cricket is getting lost. @BCCI

If there is one player who deserves to be in the squad, it is Rishi Dhawan. He has had a phenomenal domestic season and is man in form. BCCI should have had a look at his all round abilities in this series. #INDvWI #RishiDhawan

THE squad look like selection from IPL. Then why SMAT and VHT? both for selection auction for IPL. not for India squad. So Rishi Dhawan and Sharukhan only for IPL auction, Not for India team. We given chance SKY at his end of career. Don't repeat for others

Why would you Venky Iyer he clears needs time in domastic circuit. Plus the man who should be picked in that pace all rounder category is Rishi Dhawan not anyone else the guy has out performed everyone.

He scored 458 runs and dismissed 17 batsmen in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
This was Rishi Dhawan's performance in the domastic season and yet he missed out on selection for the West Indies series this is a growing problem I feel if the player who perform in domastic circuit are

Rishi Dhawan was an absolute gem in the recent VH trophy. Didn't deserve to be ignored that too due to someone like deepak Hooda who just had a below par tournament.

The fact that players like Rishi Dhawan and Srk haven’t been picked in either squads ensures that domestic tournaments aren’t of much importance for the selectors. Ravi Bishnoi had an average Vijay Hazare tournament but was picked ahead of the ones who bowled better than him.

Deepak Hooda … Really?? I really feel for Rishi Dhawan. He had an extraordinary VHT and SMA with both bat and ball. He deserved a place!

Harsh to leave Rishi Dhawan out of the squad despite the squad lacking the exact skill set he brings in!
Vijay Hazare numbers:
8 games
458 runs @ 76.33 at 127 SR
5 50s
17 wickets @ 23.35. Eco: 6.00Don't tell me this couldn't be our #6 bat and 6th bowler?#bcci #INDvWI
