The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the limited-overs series against the West Indies. This series will consist of three ODIs and as many T20Is and will commence on 6th February 2022.

Rohit Sharma will return from injury to lead the Indian side, while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has also made a return to the ODI squad as well. Also, Ravindra Jadeja has not been picked in the Indian squad as he has not completely recovered from his knee injury. However, one name was missing from the limited-overs squad. And, it is Rishi Dhawan.

Rishi Dhawan produced a scintillating performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last month. The right-arm pacer emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament and scalped 17 wickets at an average of 23.35. He also emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in the competition as well, and amassed 458 runs with the willow at a superb average of 76.33.

Twitter reacts to Rishi Dhawan’s omission from the Indian limited-overs squad

And, several fans have taken to Twitter to react to Dhawan’s omission from the Indian limited-overs squad. One fan feels that Dhawan could have surely been picked in the side as the 6th bowling option, while another tweeted that Dhawan could have been picked in place of Deepak Hooda.

Another fan feels that the limited-overs squad for the series against the West Indies was picked based on the performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Yet another fan opined that Rishi Dhawan deserved to be picked in the Indian squad for the limited-overs assignment against the West Indies side.

While another fan tweeted that the value of Indian domestic cricket is coming down, another put out some numbers to prove why Dhawan deserved a place in the Indian side. Ahmedabad will play host to the ODI series between India and the West Indies, while the T20I series will be played in Kolkata.
