The England cricket team has put up a shoddy performance in The Ashes series against Australia. The Joe Root led side is already 0-2 down in the series, and the visitors have also started the Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in poor fashion.

England were bowled out for just 185 on Day 1, and Australia ended the day at 61/1, and are just 124 runs adrift of the England total. And, former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels that the entire England side is under pressure.

Vaughan admitted that Joe Root is a ‘great’ human being, but reckoned that Root has made mistakes this year as the skipper of the Test team. Vaughan added that Root’s team selection has not been up to the mark.

“They’re under pressure, the whole set-up is under pressure. He is a great guy; Joe Root is a fantastic human being, but he’s made mistakes over the last year. In the summer he made big mistakes in India, getting it wrong in Brisbane with his selection, again in Adelaide with his selection and his tactics,” said Michael Vaughan in a chat with Fox Cricket.

I cannot fathom how Stuart Broad was left out: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan also added that in spite of a green top that was on offer both in Brisbane as well as in Melbourne, England did not select Stuart Broad in their playing XI. Labelling Broad’s exclusion as a staggering one, Vaughan concluded by stating that the only thing the Joe Root-led outfit has done right in this series is turning up in time for the Test match.

“I look at someone like Stuart Broad; in Brisbane he wasn’t selected on that green top there, he’s not selected here. How England have not seen Stuart Broad, with all his experience, such a wonderful Test career, is not going to be bowling a ball on a green top in Brisbane and now not here in Melbourne, that’s staggering really.

How Stuart Broad is not going to be bowling around the wicket to David Warner on a green top, I just can’t fathom that with the quality that he brings. So far the only thing they’ve done right on the trip is turn up on time,” concluded Vaughan.
