Australians are known for their in your face behaviour and aggressive playing nature. This is one of the reasons why they have a love-hate relationship with Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper has similar traits and he likes to give them back. Whenever he has toured Down Under, the fans and the players have received him as the major antagonist but with respect.
He has been quite successful against the Australian side with the bat as well like he has been all around the globe. The last time he travelled Australia he became the first Asian skipper to pull of a Test series win. However, amidst all this, Adam Zampa has found a different angle about Kohli’s demeanour.
The leg spinner was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as Kane Richardson‘s replacement right before IPL 2020 and he shared the dressing room with the Indian skipper. Zampa feels that while Virat Kohli is a competitive, intimidating and antagonist on the field being arguably the best batsman on the planet, he is quite different off the field. Once he is off, he is humble, generous and accommodating.
“He’s a different person off the field. You see his aggression and how competitive he is on the field, he’s one of the most chilled out guys off the field. You always play against him, you get to know what he’s like on the field and then being able to spend time away from the cricket field with guys like that, you see how human they are,” Zampa said on The Unplayable Podcast for Cricket Australia.
Virat Kohli is a lovely guy and very chilled out, says Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa has troubled Virat Kohli a lot of times while playing against him. He has dismissed the Delhi lad in 7 out of 21 outings against him. However, while playing with him in the cash-rich league, he made him laugh with his silly jokes till his cheeks became sore.
“He’s the kind of guy (that) as soon as he walks across that line, he’s a competitive beast. I saw it first hand playing with him, there are two different versions of him and that’s the weight of expectation he has on himself to perform for India. But when he’s off the field he’s a lovely guy and very chilled out. He’d had enough of me by the end of it trying to make him laugh until his cheeks were sore,” the Aussie leggie concluded.
