India suffered a 0-3 whitewash at the hands of the South African outfit in the three-match ODI series that took place between the two sides. And, former Pakistan bowling great Shoaib Akhtar has stated that he now sees a rift in the Indian side.
Adding that it is important to see how the Indian side will be handled, Akhtar opined that Virat Kohli stepped down as the Indian captain because a situation was created that forced him to do so. The ‘Rawalpindi Express’ also added that there were several reasons why Kohli stepped down as the Indian Test skipper.
“I see a rift in this team. Important to see how the team will be handled. I don’t think Kohli quit because he wanted to, such a situation was created that he had to leave captaincy. There are a lot of reasons behind Kohli’s decision to leave Test captaincy, that I cannot say because of confidentiality,” said Shoaib Akhtar on his YouTube channel.
The recent performances have left India humiliated: Shoaib Akhtar
Shoaib Akhtar also added that India have been humiliated by South Africa and opined that the Indian side should not be losing in such a demoralizing manner to the Protean outfit.
“The recent performances have left India humiliating. I don’t think the Indian team should be losing to such a South Africa team, that too in a demoralizing manner,” added Akhtar.
Shoaib Akhtar also opined that he did not witness a combined effort by the Indian cricket team in South Africa and concluded by stating that the Indian team management should put an end to all kinds of unrest within the Indian camp.
“Moving ahead from this point, the BCCI, Management, captain and the rest of the players will have to regroup. The issues of unrest will have to be put to an end by the management. I didn’t see a combined effort by the team in South Africa,” concluded Akhtar.
India will next take on the West Indies in a limited-overs series that will commence on 6th February 2022.
