MS Dhoni, on Sunday, once again highlighted his reputation as one of the best finishers in the world at the moment. Despite being 37, the veteran batsman is showing no signs of slowing down and his performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore was just another testament of that. The game which was looking well over as a contest was not only brought back to life by Dhoni but was eventually turned into one of the best games the league has ever witnessed.

The game looked dead and buried when MS Dhoni joined Ambati Rayudu in the middle. Super Kings were off to a disastrous start while chasing a modest 161 at the MA Chinnaswamy Stadium. Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and Kedar Jadhav were back in the pavilion with just 28 runs on the board. But from thereon, Dhoni took the onus on himself to make a match out of the game.

The likes of Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja did not last long but Dhoni held firm from one end. With patience being the need of the hour, Dhoni completed his fifty off 41 deliveries. But he shifted gears just when it mattered the most. With 26 needed off the last over, Dhoni hit Umesh Yadav for 24 runs, including three sixes and a boundary. However, with two runs needed off the last ball, Dhoni missed a length ball from Umesh.

The Super Kings tried to steal a single when the ball went to Parthiv Patel behind the stumps but the latter ran out Shardul Thakur with a direct hit. As a result, Dhoni’s valiant effort went in vain and Super Kings lost the thriller by 1 run. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 84 off 48 deliveries with the help of 5 fours and seven sixes.

High praise from Siddharth

Following the game, Bollywood actor Siddharth lavished praise on the Super Kings skipper, saying that there will never be another ‘phenomenon’ like Dhoni in the game.

There was never and will never again be a cricketing phenomenon like #DHONI. The result doesn’t matter, the points don’t matter, that was a major win for #MSD. His calm is a super power. I salute you superman. You have changed cricket forever. ❤️ #RCBvCSK,” wrote the actor.
