Team India is all set to lock horns with New Zealand in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) from June 18 to June 22 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. With the summit clash just a couple of days away, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has organized a four-day practice match for the Indian team.

The practice match is important to get the players back into the groove and help them in getting accustomed to the playing conditions and pitches in the United Kingdom (UK). For the intra-squad match, India is divided into two teams. One team is led by India’s regular captain Virat Kohli and features all the main batsmen.

KL Rahul is made the skipper of the other team and it has all the main bowlers along with the batters who are unlikely to make it to the Playing XI in the WTC final. The practice game has brought good news for India as it seems that Rishabh Pant has adapted well to the English conditions. Pant is enjoying a dream ride in the purest format of the game as he scored plenty of runs in the four-match Test series against Australia and England earlier this year.

Rishabh carried his brilliant form to England too, as he scored a stunning not-out 121 runs off just 94 balls in the practice match. Apart from Rishabh, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja were also decent with the willow as they scored 85 and 54 respectively.

Coming to the bowlers, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma are ruling the charts. On Day two of the intra-squad match, Ishant picked three wickets while giving 36 runs. The third day was ruled by Siraj as he scalped two wickets while conceding 22 runs. Skipper Virat Kohli seemed highly impressed with the two seamers as he took to his official Twitter handle to make an appreciation post.

Sharing a happy picture with Ishant and Siraj, Kohli wrote, “These quicks are dominating everyday”. Meanwhile, India is yet to decide on its bowling unit. The Asian side has plenty of bowling options at their disposal and it will be tough for the team management and skipper to chose five bowlers for the WTC final.
