Sanju Samson’s axing from India’s T20I squad for the forthcoming series against West Indies drew widespread criticism and understandably so. The selectors dropped a big bombshell by dropping the right-handed batsman even though he didn’t get any chance to prove himself after being recalled for the series against Bangladesh earlier this month.

After waiting for four years since being dropped from the national team and toiling hard in the domestic arena, Samson finally earned a recall last month. The selectors rested skipper Virat Kohli and recalled Samson. It was expected that he would get a chance in the middle-order in the absence of Kohli. But to everyone’s utter surprise, Samson warmed the bench throughout the three-match series.

And as if that was not enough, the selectors dropped him for the next assignment. Reports suggest that the selectors had no option but to drop him since Virat Kohli was available for selection. Moreover, they wanted to back Rishabh Pant again and thus Samson had to get the boot. Samson will now have to toil hard in domestic cricket once again and hope for the best.

Harbhajan Singh blasts selectors

In the wake of Sanju Samson’s surprising omission, spinner Harbhajan Singh has reacted to. The India legend lashed out at the selectors and said that the current panel needs to be changed. He was responding to a tweet from Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor who too had criticized the decision of dropping Samson.

“Very disappointed to see @IamSanjuSamson dropped without a chance. He carried the drinks for three T20Is & has been promptly discarded. Are they testing his batting or his heart?,” Tharoor had written on Twitter.

Harbhajan agreed with Tharoor and said that the selectors are testing the batsman’s hearts. He also said he is hopeful of BCCI President Sourav Ganguly doing the needful, writing, “I guess they r testing his heart 💔 #selectionpanelneedtobechanged need strong people there.. hope dada @SGanguly99 will do the needful”

India will next play against West Indies in T20Is starting from 6th of December. After the T20I series, they will play three-match ODI series.
