Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman were exceptional for their respective teams in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). While the former picked up 21 wickets conceding only 6.73 runs per over, the 17-year-old proved his worth for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by scalping 14 batsmen and was also economical. But their main test will be in the longest format of the game as Afghanistan will embark on their journey later this month. However, Rohit Sharma feels the duo will be the force together in Tests.

Afghanistan is all set to face the number 1 Test side in the world, India, in their own den from June 14 in the one-off historic game. It will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore as key Indian players have been rested by the selectors. Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed the captain of the team and is expected to come out on the top against the newest entrants in the Test format.

Challenge for our batsmen

Rohit Sharma, while speaking to India today, heaped praises on Rashid Khan and Mujeeb who scalped 35 wickets together in the IPL this year. He believed that the duo has a lot of control on their bowling and can run through the sides in the whites. “I think Rashid and Mujeeb will be a force in Test cricket. Both of them have so much control over where they want to pitch the ball and if the pitch has anything to offer, they will be dangerous,” he said.

However, Rohit backed the Indian batsmen to handle the spin threat of the visitors well. “We have capable batsmen who can handle spin well. But it will be a challenge for our batsmen to face their spin,” added the vice-captain of the limited overs Indian team who has not been included for the one-off Test match.
