History is set to be written at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today as the World XI commence their Pakistan tour with a T20 International against the hosts. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left no stone unturned in making this a grand event as it’s expected to be a full house in Lahore today.

This series is largely being seen as a historical moment for Pakistan which may pave the way to bring back international cricket in the country and no one is happier than skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed. It was the valiant effort put up by his men in the Champions Trophy that made this tour possible. After unveiling the Independence Cup trophy, he sounded really excited and happy as he spoke to the media.

On playing at home in Pakistan

“There is a lot of excitement and this is a matter of great happiness,” Sarfaraz stated. “We are playing in Pakistan after a long time. Luckily, I am involved in this event and that too as a captain. This is a very proud moment for me and for all those players who have been selected in this team,” the skipper expressed his happiness.

“We are trying to form a good, young team so that the same players can find their place in one-day internationals and test series. This is an important series for us. After our victory in the Champions Trophy, our responsibility has increased. Expectations have been raised, we have to prepare better. We will try to play good cricket to maintain our rankings in the T20s,” Sarfraz added.

While the World XI team boasts of some of the bigger names in International cricket all the fans are missing the Indian players who are not a part of the team for the series. The Pakistani captain also feels that it would’ve made the occasion even special. “It would have been great if they were here, but we are thankful to those who have come. We hope Indian players do come in the future,” Sarfraz added.
