The Indian skipper couldn’t have been less elated. Virat Kohli was among the first few cricketers to run to the middle after Rohit Sharma’s second consecutive six gave India their maiden T20I series victory in New Zealand. The match had gone into the Super Over after both teams ended up gathering 179 in the allotted 20 overs. The Kiwis then scored 17 runs in the Super Over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma gave the finishing touches to a memorable victory for the hosts.

In the T20Is, India’s record against the Kiwis was not too bright till the beginning of this series. In 11 outings, they could win only three. But they turned the table around in one series and with a comfortable 3-0 lead in the five-game series, Kohli and his team can undertake all sorts of experiments in the remaining two games.

Rohit Sharma was adjudged the Man of the Match in Hamilton for his excellent show with the bat in the match — 65 off 40 and then the golden knock in the Super Over (15* off four balls). New Zealand missed to run him out in the very first ball when he ran a risky second run but fortune favoured the brave.

Mohammed Shami’s 20th over denied New Zealand an easy victory

Virat Kohli, who also got runs in this match — 38 off 27 — did not waste time to highlight some top moments from the game on social media. Starting from singing the National Anthem before the game till Rohit’s six sealing the game, Kohli posted pictures and captioned it: “That’s how we do it!” following it with some muscle emojis.

The Indian skipper said after the match that when New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson (95 off 48) was batting, he had little reason to believe his team as the winners. But Mohammed Shami’s terrific last over denied the Kiwis an easy victory and they ended up losing the game.

Virat Kohli also said that he felt bad for Williamson as his magnificent innings went in vain. He also said though India would like to win the series 5-0, they would also consider testing the bench strength. The two teams are scheduled to play the fourth T20I in Wellington on January 31.
