'This is really heartbreaking' - Cricketers mourn the demise of Rishi Kapoor

It’s not even four months into 2020 and the world has already been through some serious miseries. As if the dread, surrounding the coronavirus pandemic wasn’t enough, some legendary figures from the Indian film industry have embraced heavens in the last couple of days. After the enigmatic Irrfan Khan passed away from colon infection, Rishi Kapoor has also bid goodbye to Mother Earth.

The Bollywood veteran breathed his last on Thursday, April 30 at the age of 67 after being admitted to the HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai. hospital on Wednesday morning. Ever since, 2018, Kapoor was fighting with cancer and he was in the United States for treatment for over a year. The news of his demise was put forth to the media by his brother Randhir Kapoor on Wednesday night.

Later, Amitabh Bachchan, who acted alongside Kapoor a plethora of times, confirmed the news. His tweet read, “T 3517 – He’s GONE .. ! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away .. I am destroyed !” Back in 2018, the actor was diagnosed with cancer and he returned from New York to India last year in September. The entire development has come as a shocker to the entire film fraternity.

An official statement, which confirmed Kapoor’s demise on Thursday, read, “Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukaemia. The doctors and medical staff said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents.”

Kapoor burst on to the scene back in 1970 with his first film ‘Mera Naam Joker’ where he played the role of a child artist. For the same movie, he also received a national award. In 1973 his debut movie ‘Bobby’ set the box office on fire. He was last seen in the web series ‘The Body’ on Netflix.

In the meantime, the cricketing fraternity is also devasted with Kapoor’s demise. From Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman, Virat Kohli to many others, a number of them found it hard to fathom that inside 24 years, India lost two of its finest actors.
