‘This isn’t just a team, it’s a family’ – Virat Kohli after India’s defeat in the WTC final against New Zealand

Team India suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) as they lost to New Zealand by eight wickets. Over the course of two years in the tournament, India enjoyed a rollercoaster ride as they produced some stunning performances. 

However, the Virat Kohli-led side failed to live up to their reputation in the final of the WTC. The team delivered a disappointing performance in all three facets of the game. The poor show in another ICC knockout match invited a lot of criticism for the Indian team and the players.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli took to his official Twitter handle to laud his team and the players. Posting a picture from the WTC Final, the Indian captain exclaimed that they are not just a team, but a family. The 32-year-old also stressed the fact that the team will move ahead together from the defeat. 

“This isn’t just a team. It’s a family. We move ahead. TOGETHER,” Virat wrote on the micro-blogging site.

The Indian Test team is next scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England from August 4 to September 14. The matches are a part of the second edition of the WTC and the Indian side will try their level best to start the next edition on a winning note. 

If it is a Test series, it has to be a test of character over three Tests: Virat Kohli

After the loss in the WTC Final, Kohli also backed the idea of playing a three-match Test series to decide the winner of the WTC. Kohli asserted that the best Test team can’t be decided on the basis of who plays best in a single match.

“I am not in absolute agreement of deciding the best Test side in the world over the course of one game. If it is a Test series, it has to be a test of character over three Tests – which team has the ability to come back in the series or totally blow away the other team.

“It can’t just be pressure applied over two days of good cricket and then suddenly you are not a good Test side anymore. I don’t believe in it,” Kohli said.
