Chennai Super Kings legendary batter MS Dhoni has confirmed that he will play the next IPL season and the fans are quite ecstatic after hearing that they will be able to witness him in action again next year. The veteran batter announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, and since then he has been playing just the IPL tournament. He captained the franchise to a title victory in 2021 although he had one of his worst seasons considering his personal batting form.

In 2022, there were a lot of surprises waiting for the fans, as Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain a few days before the start and handed over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja. The wicketkeeper-batter however, turned back the clock with his batting form and played a few brilliant innings to finish off games for CSK. The right-hander has looked in good touch this year despite the franchise not winning enough games in the league stages.

MS Dhoni’s good batting form in IPL 2022

MS Dhoni has accumulated 206 runs in 13 games so far this season at an average of 34.33 and his strike rate has been good throughout the season as well. It will be a big boost for the franchise and CSK would have to look out for captaincy options in the next IPL Auction. In fact, after looking at CSK’s struggles this season, they had re-appointed Dhoni as the skipper, and the performance looked better as well under the 40-year-old.

However, a lot of experts did expect that Dhoni could wind up his boots for CSK after this season which did not happen. Instead, Dhoni confirmed that he will take part in next season as well to sign off his IPL career at the home ground Chepauk. “Definitely (will play), because it will be unfair not to say thank you to Chennai. Won’t be nice to do that to CSK fans,” Dhoni confirmed on the toss while enquired about his presence next year.
