TKR players treat coach Simon Katich with 'splashing' birthday surprise

How do you celebrate the birthday of a respected person, like a head coach? By giving him birthday cards, or presenting a gift? But the idea of cards and cakes are too mainstream for Windian ‘Champion’ Dwayne Bravo. His idea of a picture perfect birthday celebration of a head coach is by dumping them into the swimming pool, as former Australian cricketer Simon Katich was dumped.

Under the concrete supervision of Katich and charismatic leadership of Bravo, the Trinbago Knight Riders are outclassing every other opponent in this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Sitting like a king in the top of the table with six wins out of seven matches, the Knight Riders were the first team to register their name in the playoff stages of CPL.

Hence, it is quite evident that the TKR camp is a very joyous one. The high-flying squad celebrated the 42nd birthday of their head coach I quite a surprising manner. After the usual cake cutting, Bravo tried to paint Katich’s face brown with the chocolate of the cake. Feeling helpless and vulnerable, Katich began to run here and there in an attempt to avoid the tradition.

The players planned to dump the coach in the pool, but Katich thinks one step ahead of the rest. “I know you are trying to get me in the pool,” said the Aussie. The enigmatic left-hander tried his level best not to get wet, but led by skipper Bravo and spin spearhead Sunil Narine, the team finally succeeded in their efforts.
