TNPL 2017: S Badrinath receives one-match ban for slow-over rate offence

Subramaniam Badrinath, the captain of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) team Karaikudi Kaalai charged for slow-over rate for the third time in this season. As a result, the former Indian player will face a one-match ban in the TNPL. Badrinath was charged with the slow-over rate offence during their Eliminator game against Lyca Kovai Kings.
His team was earlier fined for the slow-over rate on two different occasions during the league stages. They were behind the required over-rate in the games played at Tirunelveli against Madurai Super Giant and Dindigul Dragons. S Badrinath received 10% and 20% fines on his match fees respectively in the two games. He was also charged with 10% fine on match fee for committing an offence against Dindigul as he showed dissent at an umpire’s decision.
By repeating third slow-over rate offence of the season, the players of Karaikudi side have been fined 50% of their match fees while Badrinath was fined 100% of his fee along with the one-match ban. Karakudi were knocked out of the TNPL 2017 in the Eliminator match at the hands of Lyca Kovai Kings, who won the game by 4 wickets. However, Badrinath’s one-match ban will be active and will be carried forward to the next season.
The press release from TNPL on Karaikudi Kaalai stated:
Match Referee of the India Cements Ltd TNPL 2017 Eliminator at the NPR College Ground, Natham on August 16 charged the Karaikudi Kaalai for a slow over rate. Captain S Badrinath was charged 100 per cent and a one-match ban, while the rest of the team was charged 50 per cent each of their match fees. This was the team’s third over-rate offence of the season.
Badrinath was earlier docked 20 per cent and the team 10 per cent each of their match fees for an over-rate offence during Karaikudi Kaalai’s game on August 7. Further, Badrinath was also fined 10 per cent of his match fee for the same offence during his team’s game on July 23. Since Karaikudi Kaalai’s season has concluded team’s third offence, the ban on Badrinath will be carried forward and will be in effect next season.
