In Rajat Bhatia, the Rising Pune Supergiants have a player who is experienced enough to understand the dynamics of cricket. RPS are placed at a lowly sixth place in the table and Bhatia has stated that it was indeed too early to write them off.
“You never know. Some teams who are winning might lose and teams that are losing may win. You can’t judge any team at this stage of the tournament. In T20 cricket, it can change anytime. It’s all about momentum,” the military medium bowler said at a press conference.
When asked about the reinforcements, Rajat Bhatia added that the additions of players such as Usman Khawaja and George Bailey would simply go on to strengthen the side. The Supergiants have been smashed to the pulp by injuries with the likes of Steve Smith and Kevin Pietersen ruled out of the tournament.
“We now have Usman Khawaja and George Bailey in the side, coming in as replacements. Hope it (combination) works now.”
“Injuries are unavoidable. We can only do our best. It’s a big squad and everybody gets an opportunity. Let’s hope for the best,” he said.
Asked if the team’s strategy would be moulded according to the new players coming in, Bhatia said it won’t make much of a difference.
“There is no strategy. When you win people say, the strategy has worked. But it is about momentum.”
“Nobody knows what is going on in his mind. His thinking is completely different. He is unbelievable. Even when you are expecting that he will be angry, he does not get angry. That’s what I am learning from him. How to stay calm.”
“You can just share your views, which I am going to do. Wickets and Associations keep changing in Delhi.”
