The Indian middle order batsman first left an imprint on the domestic circuit before making his name at the international level. Rahane scored over 1000 runs three times in his first five seasons. Playing only in his second Ranji season, in 2008-09, Rahane amassed 1089 runs in 10 matches at an average of 68.06. His run tally included 4 centuries and 5 half centuries with the top score of 201. He was a key member of the side and was the second leading run scorer for Mumbai in that edition, behind skipper Wasim Jaffer. The side won its 38th Ranji title in 2008-09.
