2. 22- Southern Punjab v Northern India 1934/35

Southern Punjab played Northern India in the inaugural Ranji trophy season match in Amritsar. Northern India batted first and scored 142 runs with Muzaffar Baig top scoring with 45 runs.  Southern Punjab replied with 135 runs with Northern India’s Jaqa Bilani taking 4/46. Northern India then scored 106 in their second innings with Mohd. Nissar taking 4/35.

Set with 114 to win, the Southern Punjab team collapsed to 22 all out in 16.1 overs. Baqa Jilani took 5/7 and dismissed Lall Singh, Capt Joginder Singh and Yuvraj of Patiala in 3 consecutive deliveries to take the first ever hat-trick of Ranji trophy. Northern India won by 91 runs.
