Indian cricket team’s interim coach Sanjay Bangar has stated that the ongoing Zimbabwe tour presents the perfect opportunity for the younger players in the Indian side to get a taste of international action. However, while Zimbabwe goes about their means of undoing the 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Indians in the recently concluded ODI series, the Indians seem to be taking it in an unbelievably relaxed manner. Yet, when the teams take the field on Saturday (June 18), the hosts could feel the weight of the pressure on their shoulders as the anxious fans will expect the start of a possible turnaround.

However, in spite of this, Sanjay Bangar certainly believes that there is certainly a lot of pressure on the younger players to perform. “I believe there’s enough pressure on the youngsters to deliver. At the back of the mind they know that if they don’t do well in this series, it actually puts a question mark. There’s a lot to lose and a lot to gain for the younger players from an opportunity to come and play,” Bangar said in the press conference on the eve of the game.

“(The tour) provides an ideal opportunity for our younger players to test international waters. It gives them the experience of finding their feet in international cricket. The confidence they derive from doing well in these games augurs really well for us and for the future of Indian cricket,” he added.

“We’re hoping to match our own expectations when it comes to T20. We’re coming on the back of an IPL so that should hold us in good stead when we play this format,” Bangar opined.
