Travis Head will be seen playing for Worcestershire in all three formats in this year’s County Championship. Worcestershire announced the signing of the Southpaw on Friday for the 2018 season. The all-rounder is vying for a permanent middle-order spot in The Australian Test side.

Head has been in good form this year and has also led The Adelaide Strikers to victory in the recently concluded Big Bash League. Head was the fourth highest run-getter in the tournament and played some crucial knocks in the T20 Tournament.

Travis Head has 34 ODIs and 10 International T20s under his belt, but a Test-spot has eluded him for a long time. With the rich vein of form that he is in, the Australian Selectors would like to test him in the middle-order in the longest format of the game. Worcestershire vice-chairman, Tim Curtis expressed his delight at the signing of Head and would like him to contribute with both Bat and Ball.

Ambitious to play Test Cricket

Worcestershire was promoted to Division One of the County Championship last year. Head would be away on international duties midway through the campaign to represent Australia in five ODIs and one T20. Tim also said that, “Travis will start the season with us in April and will be with us right through to and including T20 Finals day on September 15. He will miss two championship games in June when Australia have an ODI series and a T20I against England over here. But he is ambitious to play Test Cricket and Cricket Australia have encouraged him and other young players to play cricket this summer.’’

Travis Head would be embarking on the County Stint with the hope of some strong performances which would propel him into the Test side. And with Australia’s tour of England only a few months away, Head would want to make the most of this opportunity.
