England coach Trevor Bayliss is willing to step aside as the coach in the shortest format of the game after raising his concern over too much cricket being played. The visitors were knocked out of the ongoing T20 International tri-series despite winning the thriller against New Zealand by just two runs. However, he has also recommended the name of Paul Farbrace as his successor who can take over his position albeit only in the shortest format.

Bayliss had recently cleared that it would be tough even for the coaches to look after the team in all the three formats and the need for specialist coaches would arise in near future. He was also of the opinion of T20 Internationals to be scrapped given the T20 leagues being played all around the world. Now it remains to be seen if England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reacts over his comments.

We work pretty closely together

Trevor Bayliss hinted at his desire to step down as the T20 coach of England when asked if the specialist coaches is the way going forward in cricket. “The short answer is probably ‘yes’. Eventually you will have specialist coaches as well. That will obviously be a discussion with higher levels, with (ECB director of cricket) Andrew Strauss and people like that. If that was what they thought was the way to go ahead, I’d be all for it. If not, I am more than happy to keep going and work with these guys towards that next T20 World Cup,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

While recommending the name of Paul Farbrace, he believed that the former England cricketer would be his perfect successor as they worked closely together. “Obviously, Paul Farbrace, I think, would do a grand job. If that’s a possibility down the line, so be it. We work pretty closely together anyway. When I was a number two, years ago, a bloke said to me the role of the number two is to make the number one look good. I think he’s done a good job in that respect,” Bayliss added.
