The Tri-Nation Series started off with the hosts West Indies winning in a low scoring game against South Africa. The visiting were bowled out for 188 after winning the toss as Sunil Narine picked up a 6-wicket haul. West Indies also struggled once South Africa brought in spinners. However, Kieron Pollard’s counter attack took the game away from SA. An unbeaten fifty from Pollard helped WI to win by 4 wickets and 11 balls to spare. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

1 – Sunil Narine is now the first West Indian spinner to pick 2 five-wicket hauls in ODI Cricket.

2 – Sunil Narine is only the 2nd Non-Asian player to pick 6-wicket haul in ODI Cricket. Zimbabwe’s Graeme Cremer was the first one.

2 – Sunil Narine is now the first spinner and 2nd in overall to pick 2 five-wicket hauls on West Indian soil in ODI Cricket.

3 – Number of Day/Night ODI games played in West Indies before this Tri-Series. A total of 10 games will be played in this tournament which all under lights.

3 – This was only the 3rd win for West Indies in ODIs vs South Africa since 2005.

6/27 – Sunil Narine’s figures of 6/27 are the best figures for a West Indian spinner and 4th best by a West Indian in ODI Cricket.

9 – Number of boundaries South Africa hit during their innings. Their score of 188 is the 2nd highest with less than 10 boundaries recorded in a completed ODI innings.

12 – Number of wickets spinners picked in the game. This is only the 2nd instance recorded in West Indies where spinners picked 12 or more wickets in an ODI. Last one was in

31 – Runs scored by AB de Villiers without scoring a boundary. It was the first instance in ODI Cricket since April, 2013 where a player scored more than 30 runs without hitting a boundary.

50 – Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla pair became only the 3rd South African pair to open in 50 ODI innings and 18th pair in overall.

43.47 – Darren Bravo’s strike rate of 43.47 is the 3rd lowest for a 30+ score in ODI Cricket since 2014.

86 – Innings taken by Kieron Pollard to hit 100 sixes in ODI Cricket. He is the fastest to the milestone.

109 – WI-SA match was the first ODI played after a gap of 109 days. Last time more than 100 days gap was recorded between two ODIs was in 1995.

188 – South Africa’s total of 188 is their 3rd lowest total vs West Indies in ODI Cricket. This also the first time SA bowled out under 200 vs WI in ODI Cricket in 15 years.

2001 – Last time West Indies defeated South Africa in ODIs on West Indies soil was in May, 2001.
