Twitter explodes as Ravi Shastri applies for the head coach of India

Ever since ex-India coach Anil Kumble’s unceremonious exit from his post, the most frequently asked question is, ‘so who next?’ Team India is currently without a coach in the Caribbean, where they are playing 5 ODIs and a solitary T20. However, given the lack of firepower in the Windies, who are ranked 9^th in the ICC ODI rankings, the team can afford to be without the coach.

India won the second ODI by a comfortable margin, while the first one was washed out due to persistent rains. But before the tour to Sri Lanka, the BCCI, CoA and CAC will have to bring in Kumble’s successor.

Given that the Indian cricket team enjoyed a lot of success under Kumble’s 1-year tenure, regaining the No. 1 spot in Tests, the selection process of his heir becomes even more difficult. Several applicants, including Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody, threw in their hats for the coveted post.

But since BCCI extended the application date to July 9, Indian commentator Ravi Shastri, who was also the team director from 2014-2016, found an opportunity to apply for the post for which he couldn’t get through last year. “”Yes, Ravi is very interested and will be applying for the coach’s post very soon,” a source close to Shastri told PTI today.

Following his application for the post of India coach, Twitter has been abuzz with theories on how the relationship between Indian captain Virat Kohli and Shastri will be a match made in heaven since both are known to share a mutual camaraderie for each other.

Apparently, several sources have over the time revealed that Kohli was always in favor of Shastri becoming the head coach. And if that happens, the Indian team will be having a certain Manmohan Singh in their support staff, as per Twitterati.
