A few weeks after India found themselves out of the cricket World Cup, it is MS Dhoni who has continued to steal the headlines. The ace wicketkeeper-batsman has still not called it a day, leaving a lot of quarters shocked and surprised. While it was being speculated whether Dhoni would still find himself in the Indian limited-over squads for the upcoming tour of the West Indies starting next month, a fresh twist was seen in the tale.

The 38-year-old Dhoni informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) just before the team selection that he would not be available for two months since he will be serving the para regiment. Dhoni, who holds an honorary post of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army, was also granted permission by none other than Chief of Army Staff Bipin Rawat.

India chief selector MSK Prasad announced the Indian squads for the T20Is, ODIs and Tests in the Caribbean and it was Rishabh Pant who was picked as the main keeper. In the Tests, Pant was accompanied with Wriddhiman Saha, who made a comeback to the Indian side after almost a year and a half.

What made you feel amused Bumble, questions Twiteratti

Meanwhile, Dhoni’s decision to join army training when the cricketing circles were busy contemplating his future saw yet another controversy. Former England cricketer and coach David Lloyd reacted to the news of Dhoni’s sabbatical with a couple of laughing emojis on the social media and he was taken on by the Indian fans who questioned what made the 72-year-old feel amused.

The fans even attacked him calling him “coward” and “idiot”. Here are some of the reactions that the Twitterati came up against Lloyd, called “Bumble” as well.

India will be playing three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests against the Windies in the month-long tour. The selectors have taken a lot of new faces for the series while Virat Kohli will lead the side across the three formats. This is perhaps the first time that Dhoni will not be a part of the Indian squad in any format since making debut in 2004. He was not part of the T20I series against the West Indies and Australia last year but had played in the ODIs.
