Twitter lauds Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed for reporting bookie approach

Social media today, turned in full adulation towards  Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed who recently turned down a bookie offer during the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka. He indeed swiftly reported the approach to the Pakistan Cricket Board who forwarded the matter to the ICC anti corruption unit.

“The matter has been handled as per standard procedure but there is a lot of respect for Sarfraz, who as a captain and player, has set a great example for his teammates on how to avoid attempts to corrupt the game, “said an official of the Pakistan Cricket Board as quoted by NDTV.

“ICC rules don’t allow us to name player (s) in such cases where approaches are reported but yes Sarfraz got an offer and he immediately reported the matter to the concerned officials, who have taken appropriate action,” he added.

Pakistan has faced a lot of problems owing to corruption charges in the recent past. Sometime ago, the PCB’s anti-corruption tribunal had banned Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif for 5 years after both were found guilty of corruption charges.

Thus, Sarfraz’ move of making the officials aware of the approach was lauded by the fans. Praises roped in for the skipper from all quarters for his efforts of keeping the game clean and free of any malice. The Pakistani skipper led his team to their first Champions Trophy win in June this year as they defeated arch-rivals India in the finals. He was recently also appointed as the Test captain following the retirement of Misbah Ul Haq.

Twitter hailed the Pakistani skipper for being outright against the bookie. Various journalists and cricket experts took to the social networking site to laud him. Everyone came in full admiration of Sarfraz Ahmed for doing the righteous thing.
