Cheteshwar Pujara completed yet another Test match century as the Indians went about chasing the 537 required by the Indian team to shorten the lead by the visiting England side. Pujara was perhaps more impressive as he was playing at the Saurashtra Cricket Association, his home ground in Rajkot. Murali Vijay also soon reached his ton as these two batsmen had impressed quite a bit on the day.
While the emotion ran high for Cheteshwar Pujara on the day, he was joined in the stadium by his father and his wife. It was a nerve-wracking few minutes as the 29-year old was stranded on 99 at the close of play for the tea break. However, for someone who only plays international Test cricket for India, it was clear that the right-handed batsman had the composure to break the 100-run barrier.
Although it was beyond a shout of a doubt, Pujara reached the hundred he so well-deserved. This also prompted celebrations from the family members to present on the day, most notably his wife and his father seated in the stands. What was more impressive was the fact that he had been struck on the helmet a few times in the morning session, something that he clearly recovered from to score his ton.
Pujara’s partner in crime was Murali Vijay who clearly impressed after having netted his own century. Moreover, the fact of the matter remained that he was batting and had batted for the most part of the day. As Ravi Shastri would go on to state, these two batsmen had shown fabulous concentration and commitment to batting.
