Australian opening batsman D’Arcy Short slammed an impressive half-century ensured that David Warner’s men maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament. Ashton Agar, a T20 specialist in his own right also impressed with the ball as he picked up three wickets at a fantastic run-rate of just 6.75. In spite of being the beneficiary of a good start to the innings, the Kiwis eventually succumbed to the pressure of the Australian spinners before being restricted to 150. The wicket, which was indeed a resued one provided little for the pacers and offered turn for the spinners.
Veteran New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor ensured that there was a late flurry of runs towards the end of the innings with some heavy hitting. His unbeaten innings of 43 ensured that the hosts recovered from the slump and posted a marginally respectable score of 150. D’Arcy Short and David Warner made their way out to bat and began the innings in aggression – the way they know best. Short was particularly severe on the likes of Trent Boult and Tim Southee. Short eventually would help himself to a century before good riddance ensured that Williamson brought in the spinners just before the rain arrived on the scene.
Ish Sodhi, considered to be one of the best T20 specialists in the world ensured that the innings was pulled back with a flurry of wickets. As Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell made attempts to reconstruct the innings. They came within striking distance and threatened to win before the rain made yet another intervention. With time running out, the Duckworth-Lewis method once again made it’s overdue intervention as the umpires eventually awarded the match to Australia. Ashton Agar was named as the man of the match while Glenn Maxwell walked away with the man of the series.

Bit of a bummer end to the match, but Australia thoroughly deserved the win. Head and shoulders above NZ and England this series. #NZvAUS #TriSeries

It wasn't a great game to be honest, especially with those rain breaks. But the best side won the trophy. Congratulations Australia! #NZvAUS

I told everyone we needed to bowl first to have any chance of winning, coz the Aussies would chase down our score. Kane won the toss and chose to bat first. What a terrible call. #NZvAUS

A Tri Series where a team with just one win made the final fittingly ends in a call off #NZvAUS
